Ideas for Nathan

As usual, I don't have many good ideas for gifts for me. I hardly ever listen to music, and I usually prefer to pick out my own clothes (okay, to have Lauren pick them out). I just have the same old answer for the easiest way to surprise me with a gift that I'll really enjoy: Find an interesting book. To give you an idea of my range of interest, here are some of the books I enjoyed most recently and some that I hope to read soon:

  • Read recently
    • Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Promote Peace...One School at a Time
    • Your Inner Fish
    • Crossing to Safety
    • The Hound of the Baskervilles
  • Yet to read
    • The Omnivore's Dilemma
    • The Black Swan: The Impact of the Highly Improbable
    • The Education of Little Tree

To be honest, I've been dragging my feet a little on reading some of these because I was starting to feel like all my recreational reading was of books that were "good for me" (like eating my vegetables) rather than fun. I like being enriched, but sometimes I just want an intellectual cookie, you know?

I think bestseller lists are an easy way to find good books. I usually find more enjoyable reads that way than by looking for books that are thematically similar to ones I already read.

There are a few computer games I'm interested in: the Myst IV and V games (both now old) and Spore. I think a new copy of Spore is a little pricey for the range we're shooting for in the family gift exchange, but I wouldn't mind a used copy. Just be sure that it has only been installed once, because it has a limit of three installs total.

So, where does Lauren pick out your clothes? Which stores' gift cards would you put to good use?

Didn't you read Crossing to Safety in the spring? Is that recent? I am not much of a reader. I don't know if I've read any novels this year. I have read some parenting books and lots of magazines, but I have this idea that I can't read a book unless I can dedicate a lot of time to it and rarely do I think I have lots of unscheduled time.

I don't have tons to time to read either, so I had to hedge by using the phrase "the books I enjoyed most recently" instead of "the books I enjoyed recently".

By the way, we already have a copy of The Education of Little Tree, so definitely don't give me that.

We shop at different places: Old Navy, Target, Macy's, occasionally Gap. It's hard to say exactly where we will buy clothes for me any time soon.

Hopefully you received your gift in the mail from Amazon/ Santa. I probably addressed it to the wrong person but it is for Nathan.
