Devin says...

I'm in between quotes and I decided to take a break. Presently I am drinking a weight loss shake. It's my in-between-meals snack. I just can't seem to put on any more bulk since I've been married (no, not complaining, just explaining, and Elisa also feeds me well). I have liked the extra calories during the mid-afternoon bore at the office.

I totally stock appleinsider.com, macrumors.com, bloomberg.com/energy, macnn.com at least twice a day, no joke. I also have started looking at the stobist blog for photographers.

If it deals with anything photography, I'm interested in hearing about it. I like aljacobs.com. I have two of the black boxes and wouldn't mind getting one or all of the following: the tuxedo, a quantam mb2 cable (to fit my canon 580EX II flash), the digital pro-m bracket, or the dual bracket that mounts with an umbrella.

I'm also looking at getting an incident light meter (one that can measure both ambient light and light from strobes/flashes) preferably the sekonic l-208, l-308s, or l-358. Not sure which one. I'm learning that the in-camera meter just doesn't cut it for me anymore. It meters reflected light from the subject, not the light falling on the subject and depending on the color of the object it can be way off.

I've also looked at posing guides for wedding and portraits. Online there seems to be very few resources without buying a book or subscription.

That's all for now. More later.

Do you do wedding photography as a business or mostly just a hobby? What are your photography aspirations?

Currently I call it a hobby for tax purposes. I just buy new equipment with the money I make for the different jobs I do so I don't have to call it a business or pay taxes on my earnings.

I would love to be a full time photographer (or have enough money in the bank) with a studio and fly around the world to do family portraits. I had an uncle on my mom's side that did pictures for many of the general authorities and was also flown to Washington DC for a few photo shoots. It was called Massey Studios out of Provo, UT.

I also have the goal of being able to shoot high school athletics with a $10,000 super-telephoto lens and then give the pictures for free to the parents. I think my insurance career will be able to accommodate these aspirations. Plus, it would be good for community service also.

Update

I got a ambient flash meter a week ago from some money I've had from contest winnings and a forthcoming photoshoot.
