I give up—every year I try to come up with good suggestions for gifts besides books, but now I'm ready to admit that there really isn't anything else in my life outside of the family routines, work, and my calling. It's so easy for me to enjoy reading a book and so hard for me to think of anything else I want.
I like Devin's idea of discussing books rather than just giving/reading them and forgetting them. Giving me a book that you think you and I will both like and then taking the trouble to tell me what you think about it later would be wonderful. (Maybe you should give me a book about how to write shorter, simpler sentences. Kidding! I already have Strunk and White.)
